Our Name
The idea for Proust.com was inspired by the 19th century French writer Marcel Proust, who is best known for his seven-volume novel,
Remembrance of Things Past. In it, the narrator's vivid memories of his youth come rushing back to him years later when he tastes
the same madeleine cookie and tea he had as a child. Similarly, we hope Proust.com can serve as your own madeleine to evoke memories, and
then inspire you to preserve and share them.
Marcel Proust is also popularly associated with what has come to be known as the "Proust Questionnaire." Growing up, a member of elite bourgeois
social circles in Paris, Proust encountered a popular ice-breaker style British parlor game that encouraged guests to answer a personal questionnaire
as a means of getting to know one another better.
Proust answered his first set of questions at the age of 13 and his second while in his 20s.
Those answers were published in a well known 1892 French magazine article and Proust has since
become widely associated with this style of questionnaire.
At Proust.com we've embraced the spirit of sharing that the Proust Questionnaire represents.
Here you can exchange answers to original questions that Marcel answered with family & friends
then go deeper and explore questions that touch upon the various chapters of your lives.
