October 1, 2009 The first baby I helped deliver in my obstetric clinical rotations. First of all, I felt the baby's head and was able to feel her fontanels. My instructor was shocked because most nurses do not let their students do that, let alone me doing it and being able to feel the fontanels on a tiny baby inside of her mother. My instructor told me I had a gift. If I go into maternity nursing, then that moment will become the one that began my calling. We'll see.

Later that day though, out of no where, all the waiting and striving and sitting around just climaxed into this moment where the world stopped - I'm sure especially for this family - and this tiny little girl came out of a belly that was one moment ago, so heavy with child. It was amazing. The joy in the room was palpable.

I can't wait for that experience with my own child someday.
