September 11th 2001. Watched it unfold live on tv in work. Horrifying. American colleagues devastated. Flew into San Francisco a week later.

The assassination of John F. Kennedy was probably the worst event that happened in my lifetime up to 9/11. We had put all of our hopes and dreams in the president at the time. I had not really noticed the division between Democrats and Republicans when I was that age, but I do know it now.
