The first baby I helped deliver in my obstetric clinical rotations. First of all, I felt the baby's head and was able to feel her fontanels. My instructor was shocked because most nurses do not let their students do that, let alone me doing it and being able to feel the fontanels on a tiny baby inside of her mother. My instructor told me I had a gift. If I go into maternity nursing, then that moment will become the one that began my calling. We'll see.
Later that day though, out of no where, all the waiting and striving and sitting around just climaxed into this moment where the world stopped - I'm sure especially for this family - and this tiny little girl came out of a belly that was one moment ago, so heavy with child. It was amazing. The joy in the room was palpable.
I can't wait for that experience with my own child someday.

When have you felt homesick?

May 2011 • Ireland When I was across the ocean in Ireland, studying nursing and healthcare. I had such an amazing time, but I really missed my parents, sister, and dogs. Then when my "uncle" died, everyone at home was trying to wait until I came home to tell me, but someone I don't know too well sent me a text and I called home to find out what was going on. After that point, I just wanted to be at home more than I wanted to stay. I wanted to be with the people I loved, with my "aunt" and her daughter, her two sons.
