A professor at the university approached me about taking over for the existing system administrator. I took the job and worked my behind off with very little pay. When I left that job and the university, I got a low-paying job (but still more than the university job) in Massachusetts at a time when I could not even get a job at McDonald's in Maine.

I studied Fine Arts, then did a Masters in Library Science. I needed a job and looked for something "art-related" and ended up in advertising. An advertising library, which is really a business library. From there I worked in business libraries.
