Nice, France On our honeymoon back in 1998, the wife and I were traveling back on the last train out of Monaco to head back to our hotel just outside Nice when we discovered that the midnight last train of the night DOES NOT make all its usual small stops! It drove wayyyy past our exit back into downtown Nice, a clear 4-5 miles away from our cosy beach hotel. Another 2 Americans were also stranded at 1230am upon exiting. We all laughed at the moment and in a spare of the moment decided to all hang out going from bar to bar as they closed down until 530am until the trains started again!!! One of those cool once-in-a-lifetime moments were strangers come together and bond by chance alone. :) Turning a potential awkward negative moment into an amazing positive one is one

Athens, Greece It had to have been when I met Paul the Australian in Greece. We ended up taking a ferry to the island of Paros and Anti-paros. Paul was planning on getting a sea kayaking job, but we just explored the island instead.

Chicago, IL, USA Too many to mention over a lifetime of travel, but probably the worst was travelling back from Salt Lake City after Christmas. Our plane was coming from Chicago and taking us back there for our long flight to Oslo via Amsterdam. It was delayed due to bad weather, so consequently we arrived in Chicago with very little time to catch our flight. Whilst waiting in Salt Lake we'd got talking to a group of four elderly Utah ladies who were doing a Grand Tour of Europe by bus , starting in Amsterdam. So that made a group of six frantically racing for the gate to Amsterdam. We were stopped and told that the gate had closed and we had missed our flight. After enquiring about a later flight, we were sent downstairs to the United desk to find out what to do next. The young lady made a lot of phone-calls and her face got longer and sadder. "You're going to have to stay in a hotel tonight and take the same flight tomorrow". I burst into tears because I didn't know if we had enough money for a hotel. The airline were not responsible for the delay - it was the weather - so we had to pay ourselves, but got a discount voucher from the airline. So that was how we spent the night in a very nice hotel-room at the Sheraton in Chicago.

It is nothing grand, let alone an adventure. My train back to Germany from Paris left me standing in awe. I rushed to the booth and the next best trip was a night train that brings me to Stuttgart 5am. The adventure? Well my bunk mate wanted to make stories and I was forced to speak in German for more than an hour. Things got out of order so I consider this an adventure. :)

My husband and I went to the town of Sestri Levante on the Italian Riviera in December of 2011; this was the place my Grandfather took me for the very first time when I was 16 back in Summer of 1970. A very beautiful and romantic town, the unexpected event was to find this little Beach Disco Bar, which was still there and didn't seem to have changed at all in all this time, unlike everything else. We had a wonderful time and ate a plate of Mussels fresh out if the Mediteranian Sea, molto bene!!!

Traveling from Nebraska bk home Debbie and I decided to see a few things on the way. In Kansas the gps told of the cathedral on the plains so we decided to go. The gps leading us. It took us way out on the plains where only dirt roads were and no people have been where we were since "little house on prairie"lol. We got stuck in mud that became cement covering tires all the way to the top of wheel covering we were muddy from head to toe. The cathedral was rite on the interstate

on my way to Scotland, I left my purse in Charlotte. The guy who sat next to me from Charlotte to London ended up loaning me $150 to complete the next two legs of my journey with the understanding that I would mail him a check when I got home. Which of course I did. Brings the kindness of strangers to a whole new level
