Noodle. Chinese noodle. Mi noodle. You know why? I remember we were sleeping at 9PM or 10PM. Suddenly there's a motorcycle arrives. My older cousin (by a generation). They drove from the center city to where they were visiting On Ngoai and Ba Ngoai's store. We'd wake up when the aunt/cousin (Ba Ngoai's side of the family) would arrive and say, "wake up, we're going to get some noodles." Auntie B. (cousin) -->. She was skinny.
We didn't have much money. Money would run out mid-Month of the month or so. Money was a problem. When we couldn't afford anything extra like noodles. They'd come over and talk and buy noodles for us. They had more money than us because they fixed radios.
Now, when I want something, I go out and buy it. But then, we couldn't afford it.
I always remember that. When I visit them, I give them money.
We called Ba Ngoai's first cousins: Auntie Han. Auntie A. Auntie B. Auntie C. Auntie D. They were all pretty. Except Auntie B. She was skinny. They were all rich. They had a brick factory.

Definitely my family's African soup. Back in the day, we would all sit on our green carpet with newspaper laid out and my grandmother would bring out a plate of what we referred to as bisquick (literally bisquick mixed with water, trust me it's better than it sounds) and a big bowl of African soup. We would all eat as a family.

scrambled eggs because that is all my father would make for me whenever he had to take care of me while mother was out at work.

My grandmother used to feed me Creamette macaroni noodles with butter and Parmesan cheese in the afternoon while I was watching television, so macaroni reminds me of that time. So does tea with milk and sugar and orange slices, as that is what Granny Madonna would have in the afternoon at her tea time.
