The Beatles released their groundbreaking album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It deviated from all previous popular music in that it incorporated a range of music styles- psychedelic, classical, rock 'n' roll, experimentation, pop music- as well as used different studio technology and more thoughtful lyrics that resonated with their generation. The group wanted an escape from Beatlemania and created these altar-egos in order to grow as performers and artists. The innovative album became one of the most important in the history of music.

Bolivia

Marxist revolutionary and guerilla leader Che Guevara was captured and killed in Bolivia as he tried to overthrow political rule. Guevara played a key role in the fall of Fulgencio Batista's Cuban regime and rallied support during Fidel Castro's bid for power.

Nearly 100,000 protesters marched on Washington in opposition to the Vietnam War, one of the most significant events of the anti-war movement. 1967 marked the first time a majority of Americans opposed the war.
