1976 Williamsville, NY, USA High School - Built in the late '70's, for what seemed like a crazy figure - around $9MM - my class was maybe the 2nd to go all the way through the 4 years. It was very unique for the time, and open concept where walls were absent and lockers, bookcases and freestanding chalkboards separated spaces for class.

April 23, 1976

Critics wrote off the Ramones with the release of their first album, Ramones, a name they took from Paul McCartney who used it as his alias. The Ramones set the foundation for the punk-rock movement, which would grow in popularity when the Sex Pistols and The Clash hit the scene.

West Point, NY

The first women entered West Point Academy and would be in the graduating class of 1980. Congress had passed legislation the previous year allowing the admission of women into U.S. military academies. Just over a decade later women would fill every leadership position.

Nadia Comaneci earned a perfect 10 in gymnastics at the summer Olympics, the first athlete ever to receive that score in the sport.

Kingston, Jamaica

Bob Marley walked away from an assassination attempt made on his life while rehearsing for a concert. Marley fleed the country after his concert and released an album the following year entitled "Exodus," relating his experience to the biblical story of Moses and the Israelites leaving Egypt.
